EU4Environment – Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) in Azerbaijan
The “EU4Environment” Action helps the six Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine to preserve their natural capital and increase people’s environmental well-being by supporting environment-related actions, demonstrating and unlocking opportunities for greener growth, and setting mechanisms to better manage environmental risks and impacts.

Final national conference was held in Baku

“The National Conference on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) in Azerbaijan” was organised to finalize the activities of the Demonstration project, as part of the Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighbourhood (EaP GREEN) Programme funded by the European Union, that assists the government of Azerbaijan at identifying efficient policy solutions and practical steps towards a greener and more sustainable economy. The Conference also presented progress and results achieved in promoting resource efficient and environmentally friendly production practices in small and medium-sized industrial enterprises of Azerbaijan, held on 25 May 2017.

During the conference participants discussed the results achieved and noted importance of the RECP methodology adopted by the project is an important instrument for the greening of local enterprises and for increasing their competitiveness in international markets. The meeting also discussed key challenges and the ways forward for a wider application of the RECP techniques in the local companies.

The project is implemented jointly by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the United Nations Environment (UN Environment), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and supported by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan. The activities of the Demonstration project are funded by the European Union, co-funded by the Government of Slovenia, the Development Bank of Austria, and UNIDO.

The Conference gathered around 120 representatives of central and local governments, enterprises, professional organizations, experts,  representatives of academic sector and general public. High-level participants from the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, UNIDO and other international organizations was present during the discussions during the Conference.
